저널 콘텐츠 분석을 활용한 국내 필라테스 담론 형성 연구

초록/요약 도움말

This study aims to investigate how Pilates discourse has been shaped within academic and social domains in South Korea by conducting an integrated analysis of academic research and news media coverage produced over the past five years. Study 1 collected a total of 491 theses and journal articles published between 2020 and 2024 and performed a content analysis focusing on thematic classification, research methodologies, and journal characteristics. Study 2 analyzed 4,762 Pilates-related news articles reported by major domestic media outlets during the same period using text mining techniques to identify core keywords, topic structures, and patterns of discursive meaning-making. The findings of Study 1 indicate that domestic Pilates research has expanded beyond early emphases on physical and exercise-physiological effects to encompass themes such as psychological and emotional recovery, health management for specific populations, education and instructor-related studies, and industry- and environment-related topics. Particularly in the post-pandemic context, themes associated with wellness, self-care, and resilience have gained prominence within academic discourse. Methodologically, quantitative research remains dominant, yet the proportion of qualitative and mixed-methods studies has steadily increased, demonstrating growing methodological diversification. Study 2 revealed that practical and commercial frames—such as “posture correction,” “pain,” “rehabilitation,” “diet,” “centers,” “instructors,” “injury,” and “health management”—appeared with high frequency across news articles, illustrating that Pilates is represented as both a health practice and a lifestyle-oriented, commercialized service. Keyword network analysis further identified clusters related to “injury risk,” “certification,” “studio operation,” “home training,” “YouTube,” and “competition,” highlighting the multidimensional nature of Pilates discourse that simultaneously embodies professionalism, industrialization, and popularization. Synthesizing the two sets of findings, this study demonstrates that academic discourse increasingly conceptualizes Pilates as an integrated physical and psychological practice, whereas media discourse continues to foreground practical images associated with body shape management, pain relief, rehabilitation, and consumption. Nonetheless, partial convergence was observed in areas such as the growing emphasis on health and wellness in the post-pandemic era and heightened discussions surrounding instructor expertise and certification. These patterns suggest that Pilates has evolved beyond a simple exercise modality to become a contemporary bodily practice situated at the intersection of health, market, and cultural discourses.
