Abstract The Influence of the Perceived Social and Psychological Climate of School Sports Club’s Members on Sports Character and School Violence Yu, Ho jong Departmant of Physical Education Graduate School GangneungWonju National University Summary The purpose of this study is to empirically identify the relationship between the perceived social and psychological climate of school sports club's members and its influence on sports character and school violence. This study aims to collect basic data that can help in shaping the social and psychological climate among students in school settings with focus on their sports character and school violence behaviors. It then intends to explore effective measures for fostering proper character development and preventing school violence. achieve this, middle school students actively participating in school sports clubs in the Yeongdong region of Gangwon Province were selected as the subjects of the study. A sample of 378 participants were surveyed using the convenience sampling method among non-probability sampling methods, and 351 valid samples were used for the final analysis. The survey questionnaire used in this study consisted of 50 items, including three Demographic characteristics items, 10 items on social psychological climate, 17 items on sports character, and 20 items on school violence behavior. Data analysis for hypothesis testing was conducted using the PC/SPSS 28.0 window program, including frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis, leading to the following research findings. Firstly, an analysis of the differences in the social psychological climate, sports character, and school violence behavior according to the demographic characteristics of school sports club participants revealed notable effects. 1) There were no significant differences in the socio-psychological climate, sports character, and school violence behavior according to the gender of school sports club participants. 2) Differences in the social psychological climate according to the number of active years of the club members were observed in a caring climate, while significant effects were found in all sub-variables of sports character and all variables of school violence behavior except for psychological violence. The social psychological climate was the highest among 1st graders, while results based on sports character, confidence and sense of community were highest among 1st graders, and positive attitudes were highest among 2nd graders. In terms of school violence behavior, harassment was estimated to be highest among 1st graders, while excluding this, all other items were highest among 2nd graders. 3) Differences in the social psychological climate according to the number of active years in school sports clubs were observed in the motivational climate. There was also a noticeable pattern between confidence and sports character. Additionally, significant differences were found in physical violence, harassment, and extortion in school violence behavior. The social psychological climate according to the duration of participation was highest in the caring climate for those with more than 1 year but less than 2 years of participation, while in the motivational climate, it was highest for those with more than 2 years but less than 3 years of participation. Based on sports character, confidence was highest among those with less than 1 year of participation, and for other sub-variables, it was highest among those with more than 1 year but less than 2 years of participation. In terms of school violence behavior, psychological violence was highest among those with more than 2 years but less than 3 years of participation, while for other sub-variables, it was highest among those with more than 1 year but less than 2 years of participation. Secondly, the social psychological climate perceived by school sports club participants was found to have a significant influence on sports character. Thirdly, the social psychological climate perceived by school sports club members was found to have a significant influence on school violence. Fourthly, there was found to be a causal relationship between the social psychological climate perceived by school sports club participants, sports character, and school violence behavior. Based on the results, it can be inferred that the social psychological climate for school sports club members contributes to fostering proper character development and preventing school violence.Therefore, participation in school sports clubs can promote sports skill development and health enhancement. Through this, leadership and community learning can be achieved to develop social skills. Furthermore, it is expected to serve as an opportunity to raise awareness of school violence from an educational and cultural perspective, thereby contributing to the creation of a desirable school life.
