Objective: The aim of this study was to measure the shear bond strength when using universal dentin adhesive and dual-cured composite resin, and to compare various factors that could increase bond strength. Materials & Methods: Forty extracted third molars were selected, embedded in resin blocks to expose the dentin, and polished with 600-grit SiC paper. G-Premio BOND was applied, and the samples were divided into four groups based on the experimental conditions. Group 1 (G1) was filled with Luxacore Z Dual 4 ㎜ in one step, Group 2 (G2) was filled with 1 ㎜ of Luxacore Z Dual, light-cured, and then filled with an additional 3 ㎜, Group 3 (G3) had Scotchbond multipurpose adhesive applied and then filled with Luxacore Z Dual 4 ㎜ in one step, and Group 4 (G4) was filled with Fill and Core 4 ㎜ in one step (n = 10 for each group). After storing in distilled water at room temperature for 24 hours, shear bond strength was measured using a universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 0.5 ㎜/min until the composite resin-dentin interface failed. After measuring shear bond strength, the fracture patterns were observed through optical microscopy. Results: The group in which Luxacore Z Dual was placed in a 4 ㎜ increment exhibited lower shear bond strength compared to all other groups. In contrast, the group where Luxacore Z Dual was initially light-cured in 1 ㎜ increments before additional increments showed the highest shear bond strength. The group with Scotchbond multipurpose adhesive additionally applied demonstrated the next highest bond strength. These two groups showed statistically significant differences from the other groups. The predominant failure mode observed on the fracture surfaces was mixed failure. Conclusion: The methods to enhance bond strength with using high-acidity universal adhesive and dual-cured composite resin have been experimentally validated.
