중학생의 스포츠인성과 친사회적 행동의 관계에서 공감 능력의 매개효과 검증

Verification of the mediating effect of empathy ability in the relationship between sports personality and prosocial behavior in middle school students

The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of empathy ability in the relationship between sports personality and pro-social behavior of middle school students participating in school sports club activities. In order to verify the research hypothesis and achieve the purpose of the study, second graders of middle school boys and girls participating in school sports club activities in Wonju, Gangwon-do, were selected and surveyed using a non-probability sampling method, and 191 data were used for empirical analysis. Sports personality consisted of a total of 12 sub-factors: 5 questions for sincerity (patience and diligence), 4 questions for cooperation (responsibility and humility), 3 questions for definition (honesty and courage), and 3 questions for consideration (respect and tolerance). Empathy ability consisted of a total of 13 questions based on the empathy index (EQ-C) scale, three questions of cognitive empathy, three questions of emotional empathy, and four questions of social empathy. Pro-social behavior consisted of a total of 12 sub-factors, including 4 questions for pro-social behavior for colleagues, 3 questions for pro-social behavior for others, 5 questions for anti-social behavior for colleagues, and 8 questions for anti-social behavior for others. For the collected data, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, basic statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis were performed using the IBM for SPSS ver. 28.0 program. Model 4 was applied to the mediating effect of empathy ability in the relationship between sports personality and pro-social activities, and the number of bootstrapping samples was set to 5,000 to confirm the statistical significance of the mediating effect. The data were analyzed based on the questionnaire collected through the above research method, and the conclusions derived are as follows. First, as a result of verifying the difference in sports personality according to individual characteristics, the factors of sincerity and cooperation in gender were higher in female students than male students. Second, as a result of verifying the difference in empathy ability according to individual characteristics, cognitive and emotional empathy were higher in female students than male students in gender, and cognitive empathy was higher in daily participation and more than three years in the frequency and duration of participation. Third, as a result of verifying the difference in pro-social behavior according to individual characteristics, pro-social and anti-social behavior were higher in female students than male students in gender. Fourth, it was found that sports personality influenced the cognitive empathy of empathy ability, and sincerity and consideration factors influenced emotional and social empathy. Fifth, as a result of analyzing the effect of sports personality on pro-social behavior, the definition of sports personality was found to affect pro-social behavior, and sincerity, justice, cooperation, and consideration factors were found to affect anti-social behavior. Sixth, it was found that emotional empathy of empathy ability affects prosocial behavior, and emotional and social empathy of empathy ability affects antisocial behavior. Seventh, it was proved that the empathy ability perceived by middle school students participating in school sports club activities has a partial mediating effect between sports personality and pro-social behavior. The significance of the path from sports personality to pro-social behavior through empathy ability, a parameter, was verified to have a significant mediating effect. In addition, it was found that the sports personality of middle school students had a significant effect on pro-social behavior, and the ability to empathize acts as a parameter in the relationship between sports personality and pro-social behavior.
