Effects of fish meal replacement with chicken by-product and meat meal on growth performance, feed utilization, and biochemical parameters of red seabream (Pagrus major)

초록/요약 도움말

The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of fish meal (FM) replacement with chicken by-product meal and meat meal in diets for juvenile red seabream (Pagrus major). The control diet (CON) was designed to contain 60% FM. Four diets were prepared by replacing 25, 50, 75 and 100% of FM in the CON diet with chicken by-product and meat meal to contain 14, 28, 42 and 54% of both ingredients in a 1:1 ratio (designated as MCM15, MCM30, MCM45 and MCM60, respectively). Two other diets were formulated to contain 20 or 40% mixture of chicken by-product, meat meal, soy protein concentrate and corn gluten meal (designated as MIX20 and MIX40 respectively). Juvenile red seabream, averaging 4.57 ± 0.03 g, was stocked at a density of 40 fish per tank in 21 fiberglass tanks with 300 L water capacity. Triplicate groups of fish were hand-fed twice a day at 09:00 and 17:00 h to be apparent satiation for eight weeks. Final body weight, weight gain and specific growth rate of fish fed CON, MCM15, MCM30 and MIX20 were comparable and significantly higher than other groups. Feed utilization of CON, MCM15, MCM30 and MIX20 groups was also comparable and significantly higher than MCM60 group. Serum lysozyme and SOD activities were significantly lower in MCM45 and MCM60 groups compared to CON group. Therefore, these results indicate that chicken by-product and meat meal can be used to replace 50% of fish meal in the control diet without sacrificing growth performance, feed utilization and innate immunity of juvenile red seabream compared to fish fed the control diet containing 60% fish meal.
