21세기 현대인들은 장기적인 경기 불황으로 인한 취업난과 치열한 생존 경쟁속에서 인간 감성 상실이라는 부작용을 겪고 있다. 이의 대안으로 웰빙(Well-being), 힐링(Healing)과 같은 자연을 통한 정신적, 심리적 상처를 회복하려는 시도가 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 현대 패션산업에서도 자연을 소재로 한 디자인 개발을 통하여 개성적인 표현 영역의 확대 뿐 아니라 시각을 통한 인간 감성의 회복을 위한 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 특히, 자연의 한 영역인 꽃을 모티브로 한 디자인 개발이 다양하게 연구되어 지고 있다. 꽃은 자연의 대표적인 미의 상징으로 꽃이 지니는 구조적이고 유연한 형태와 신비롭고 아름다운 색채는 인간의 감성을 만족시켜주는 소재로 충분한 가치를 지니고 있다. 오랜 역사와 함께 시각 예술인 회화를 중심으로 꽃의 다양한 형태와 색채가 표현되어 왔으며, 이를 패션과 접목시켜 표현함으로써 예술적 가치를 높이고 표현 영역을 확대시키는 역할을 하고 있다. 꽃 회화 작품을 활용한 패션과 텍스타일 디자인은 대부분 꽃의 조형성을 응용한 디자인 연구에 국한되어 있었으며, 꽃의 사실적인 표현 기법의 보테니컬 아트를 활용한 패션디자인 연구 사례는 찾아보기 힘든 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구자는 보테니컬 아트의 거장 피에르 조셉 르두테(Pierre-Joseph Redoute)의 꽃그림 작품을 선정하여 연구하고자 한다. 르두테의 꽃그림 작품은 눈에 보이는 자연의 모습 그대로 또는 자연이 내뿜는 최상의 아름다움이 발하는 순간을 화폭에 담아내었다. 과장하지 않은 사실적이고 섬세한 표현과 은은하고 부드러운 색감은 자연을 통해 치유받고자 하는 현대인들의 내면적 감성을 승화시키기에 충분하다. 이에 본 연구는 르두테의 꽃그림 속에 표현된 꽃 모티브를 바탕으로 CAD를 활용한 텍스타일 디자인의 개발과 함께 새로운 패션 작품으로 제시하고자 한다. 이를 통해 패션에서 꽃을 활용한 표현 영역을 확대하고 인간 감성과의 교감을 통한 치유의 디자인을 개발하고자 하며, 패션에서 텍스타일 디자인의 중요성을 재인식시키는 것에 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구자는 다음과 같이 연구를 전개하였다. 첫째, 연구의 배경과 목적을 선행연구를 토대로 서술하고 연구의 방법과 범위를 제시하였다. 둘째, 국내에는 피에르 조셉 르두테 작가에 관한 선행연구 자료를 거의 찾아볼 수 없어 해외 문헌자료를 통해 그의 생애와 작품의 형성 배경을 고찰하였다. 르두테 꽃그림에 나타난 예술적 특징을 중심으로 작품을 분석하고 르두테의 꽃그림을 활용한 현대 디자인 사례를 해외 컬렉션 및 제품 디자인 자료를 중심으로 수집하여 분석하였다. 셋째, 현대 패션에 나타난 꽃문양의 분석을 위하여 텍스타일 디자인에서 나타나는 패턴 구분 방법에 기초하여 꽃문양의 표현 형태, 배열 방식으로 구분지었다. 꽃문양 이미지 자료는 2010S/S부터 2016S/S까지의 해외 4대 컬렉션에 발표된 자료를 바탕으로 분석하였다. 넷째, 위의 분석 결과를 토대로 르두테의 꽃모티브를 활용한 디자인을 기획하였다. 인간의 감성과 교감이 되는 디자인의 개발을 위하여 인간의 감정을 함축적으로 표현하고 있는 희로애락과 모티브로 활용될 르두테의 꽃그림을 꽃에 담긴 꽃말과 전설을 연관지어 초롱꽃, 아네모네, 아이리스, 튜울립 작품으로 선정하였다. CAD를 활용하여 텍스타일 디자인을 개발하였고 총 6벌의 원피스 디자인으로 제시하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻은 결론은 다음과 같이 요약된다. 첫째, 피에르 조셉 르두테의 꽃그림 작품 분석을 통하여 보테니컬 아트는 과학의 정밀함과 순수한 미학적 교감이 어우러진 예술 장르로 르두테는 이 분야의 선구자적인 작가임을 알 수 있었다. 그의 작품의 대표적인 특징은 세밀하고 정교한 사실적인 묘사와 해부학적인 표현, 독보적이고 차별화 된 수채화 표현 기법, 은은하고 풍부한 색감 표현이다. 이를 통해 꽃을 통한 인간 감성 회복의 소재로 르두테의 자연 본연의 모습을 담은 회화 작품의 적합성을 발견하게 되었고, 이를 모티브로 활용하여 디자인을 전개해 나갈 수 있었다. 둘째, 피에르 조셉 르두테의 회화 작품을 활용한 디자인 사례는 패션 컬렉션이나 주방용품에 제한적으로 활용되어 그 사례가 많지 않았다. 셋째, 현대 패션컬렉션에 나타난 꽃문양은 꾸준히 활용되고 개발되고 있었으며, 특히 이를 표현하기 위한 기법으로 디지털 텍스타일 프린팅 기법(DTP)이 큰 비중을 차지하고 있었다. 텍스타일 디자인 개발 도구로서의 CAD를 활용해 본 결과 제작 시간이 빠르고 수정이 자유로우며, 시물레이션을 통한 디자인의 결과물을 미리 예측해 볼 수 있는 장점이 있었다. 넷째, 르두테의 꽃 모티브를 활용하여 텍스타일 디자인을 개발하고 이를 DTP기법으로 프린팅 한 후 원피스로 제작해 본 결과 꽃문양의 조형성과 율동감을 표현하기에 적합한 아이템이었다. DTP는 표현 방법이 쉽고 빠르게 그 결과를 확인할 수 있는 장점이 있지만 활용 가능한 소재가 폴리로 제한되어 있어 표현 의도의 제약을 받는 문제점이 있었다. 본 연구는 앞서 살핀 르두테의 꽃그림 분석 결과와 현대 패션 컬렉션의 사례들의 분석을 통하여, 르두테의 꽃 모티브를 활용한 텍스타일 디자인 개발과 함께 이를 패션 작품으로 제작하였다. 르두테 꽃그림의 특징인 사실적이고 풍부한 색감이 나타난 꽃 모티브를 디자인에 적용시켜 표현함으로써 자연이 그대로 패션에 옮겨 온 듯한 풍부하고 화려한 디자인을 창출해 낼 수 있었다. 또한, 꽃의 형태를 양식적 패턴으로 개발하여 활용함으로써 현대적이고 감각적인 패션 작품의 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 이를 통해 패션에서 현대인의 감성을 자극시켜 주는 소재로 꽃의 무한한 가능성과 활용도를 모색할 수 있었다. 본 연구자는 피에르 조셉 르두테의 꽃그림 작품의 디자인 활용 사례가 극히 제한적이었던만큼 앞으로 계속적인 연구 과제로 활용되어지기를 기대해 본다. 또한, CAD를 활용한 다양한 텍스타일 디자인 개발을 통하여 패션 디자인의 표현 영역을 확대시키고 독창적인 디자인의 개발이 이루어지기를 바란다.

People in the 21st century are suffering from the loss of human sensitivities that caused by an unemployment crisis and intensified competition for survival through the long-term economic recession. As a remedy to lessen the suffering and to recover from our spiritual and psychological wounds, the proactive efforts have been made through the approaches to the nature: Well-being and healing. The modern fashion design trends to reflect the people’s efforts for recovering from the lost human sensitivities. The unique fashion design expressions and visual sensibilities through more use of natural resource and material have been expanded through. In particular, the flower motif of fashion design has become popular, and its outcome expression seems to be diversified. Flower is considered as the representative natural element that expresses natural beauty, having flexible structures and mysterious and beautiful colors that are believed to be invaluable to satisfy human sensitivities. The various shapes and colors of flowers have been expressed through the paintings of visual formats for a long period. By applying the visual 2-dimensioanl expressions to the fashion design, it increases the artistic value and introduces the new possibilities of ways of expression in another volume. Unfortunately, the Fashion and textile design based on flower paintings was confined them to the studies on the application of the flower formation, and the case studies of fashion design on the basis of the botanical arts and the technique of realistic expression of flowers, are hardly found. Accordingly, I examine the flower paintings of Pierre-Joseph Redouté, a great artist in the area of botanical arts and apply the personal observation in the pattern and clothing design. Redouté’s flower paintings capture the natural images as they are and the moments when they look as the best in nature. Realistic and delicate expression without exaggeration and light and soft colors sublime the internal sensitivities of the people who wish to be healed through nature. In this reason, the study is purposed on developing the textile designs and introducing the fashion design works based on the flower motif expressed in Redouté’s flower paintings with the aid of CAD. Through this process, the study aims to expand the way of flower motif expression in fashion design, to develop a healing design through communication with human sensitivities, and to reinforce the importance of textile design in fashion design. The study is composed as follows First, the study describes the background and the purpose of the study while introducing the studies that were performed and written prior to this study. It also suggests the methods and ranges of the study Second, for the research data about Pierre-Joseph Redouté’s life and artworks are limited in Korea, the data and research are mainly collected and examined from the resources at Yale School of Drama Library Collection. Redouté’s selected artworks are examined focusing on its artistic qualities. In addition, the modern design cases that applied Redouté’s flower paintings in the fashion design are collected from the international design collection and design resources and analyzed. Third, to analyze the flower patterns in the modern fashion design, the flower pattern is observed in two ways: formation of expression and methods of arrangement that is based in textile design. The Data of flower pattern images are analyzed based on the research material from the four representative international collections from 2010S/S to 2016S/S. Fourth, the design is planned through the use of Redouté’s flower motif based on step-by-step analysis. To create the designs that can touch the human sensitivities, the four representative emotional expressions: Happiness, anger, sorrow and pleasure and the Redouté’s flower paintings that are related to the four human emotions are selected first. Then, the four flowers, bellflowers, anemones, irises and tulips are selected since they include their own flower language and story in relation to the four human emotions. The Textile designs are created by using CAD, and their designs are applied to the six dresses as 3-dimensional formation. The study conclusions follow First, The analysis of Pierre-Joseph Redouté flower paintings reassure him to be a pioneering botanical artist whose work carries both the scientific precision and pure aesthetics. Redouté’s art works are characterized by detailed, elaborate, and realistic portrayal technique, anatomical expression, unique and differentiated watercolor techniques and gentle yet enriched color senses. Therefore, The Redouté’s flower paintings that portray nature are selected as the most appropriate examples that can help human sensitivities to heal and recover. This discovery is applied to the design and design motif. Second, The design works based on Pierre-Joseph Redouté’s paintings are limited to a few cases in the fashion collections or kitchen utensil design. Third, The flower patterns introduced in contemporary fashion collections are used and applied continuously. As a textile design development tool, CAD is useful and brings further advantages. CAD reduces the time to create a sample textile that can revise conveniently and previews the design view with the simulation process. Fourth, by developing textile design through the use of Redouté’s flower motif and producing a one-piece dress based on DTP printing, it is found to be proper method to express the extreme formation and rhythmic senses of flower patterns. Although DTP has the advantage of enabling us to see the results easily and quickly, its use is limited to polyester, so there are restrictions to create other feelings of formation. The study observes and analyzes the Redouté’s flower paintings and the fashion design collections. The analyses become the foundation of the textile design that reflects the Redouté’s flower motif followed by the productions of six dresses. Redouté’s realistic flower painting techniques, expressions, and rich yet delicate colors of flower motif is applied to the design. This design application in fashion design appears as nature itself. In addition, adding the stylized flower pattern inspired by the original flower patterns creates further the modern and fashionable sense of works. This leads the more potential and various applications of flowers in fashion design, which can be considerably as the media to express the sensitivities of people and to create the way of healing in fashion design. For Pierre-Joseph Redouté’s flower paintings’ study cases are lacking and its application in fashion design is rather limited, I hope for its continuous study. In addition, I hope for the more developing chances of various textile designs based on CAD that will eventually expand the areas of fashion design and stimulate further unique approach and design results.
