This test has performed a search for anti-bacterial substance of marine algae and studied the essence of the substance. The organic layer of the natural seaweed from the East Sea had a slight anti-bacterial activities against bacteria such as E. coli and S. aureus. while the organic layer of porhyra denata from Wando had a slight anti-bacterial activities against bacteria such as S. aureus In addition, the water layer of the natural laminaria from Sageunjin had a slight growth inhibiting effect on fungi such as C. albicans and a strong growth inhibiting effect on bacteria such as E. coli and S. aureus. The anti-bacterial compounds are separated from the methanol extract of the indigenous laminaria from Sageunjin through the vacuum chromatography. Two compounds having the anti-bacterial activity were separated by Sep-PAK(C18) and C8 column oriented HPLC.The anti-bacterial compounds were supposed to be 5,7,8-trihydroxyflavone and 5,7,8-trihydroxyflavone 7-O-glucuronide by comparing the absorption UV-Visible spectrophometry to several flavonoids.
