Abstract
Hanjungrok was written by the Lady Hong of Hyegyeonggung palace at the request of her nephew, who wanted to keep her writing in his family, during four times when she was 60, 67, 68, and 71 years old. And Hanjungrok is a record of the life of Hyegyeonggung Hong. The purpose of this study is to investigate the literary artistry and the characterization of the characters in Hanjungrok. This study examined the Hyegyeonggung Hong's point of view for the principle characters in Hanjungrok, Young-Jo, Sadoseja, and Hong Bonghan, compared with Joseon wangjo sillok, which is a chronicle. First, the purpose of writing Hanjungrok was found. Second, the characteristics of the characters in Hanjungrok were examined. Finally, the literary character of Hanjungrok was summarized and investigated. In chapter Ⅱ, the relationship between the historical events and the purpose of writing Hanjungrok was investigated. Because the Pungsan Hong's Family, Hyegyeonggung Hong's own native family, was suspected to be mainly responsible for Imohwabyun, she wrote Hanjungrok to vindicate the family's innocence. In chapter Ⅲ, the characteristic of the charcaters in Hanjungrok was examined. Hyegyeonggung Hong described the characters in Hanjungrok from thorough her point of view. In chapter Ⅳ, a subjective point of view in Hanjungrok was examined. Hyegyeonggung Hong described Hanjungrok for historical events by the purpose of writing on her own point of view. Because four volume of Hanjungrok was written at different time, the purpose of writing was also different and it represents the character of each volume. The main subject, which is to express her regret, is related to the character of literature and that is a character of true court literary record. Hanjungrok is a work that Hyegyeonggung Hong illustrated her tragedy. First of all, the work was based on her grief for the death of husband, Sadoseja. The principle nature of Hanjungrok was not a historical record but a true court literary record. As the result, Hanjungrok is not only a work to say in justification for her won native family but also a court literature. Additionally, there is a problem that the main is writer's own point of view not based on historical facts.
