초록/요약
The purpose of this study is to find an effective English teachingmethod for the preschool children to improve understanding ability, interestand self-confidence through English picture books. In particular, thisresearch deals with the two following areas. First, it develops an Englishteaching-learning model through English picture books. Second, it appliesthe developed teaching-learning model to show the effect upon thestudents understanding ability of English. There have been a lot of researches which showed that using Englishpicture books when teaching English to students. Unfortunately, althoughteaching English through English picture books can be a very useful way,the truth is that studies finding informations and evidences about it areinsufficient and teachers can not using the way efficiently. In order to develop an effective English teaching-learning modelthrough English picture books for the preschool children, I examined several theories related to teaching methods using English picture books.After analyzing the curriculum and the current English teaching methodsfor the preschool children at kindergarten, I have selected one Englishpicture book and investigated the diverse activities that could be helpful inthe study. Each selected English picture book was divided into 3 demonstrationlessons for a week, and a total of 12 demonstration lessons were used toteach the children in class for a month. I handed out a questionnaire andan evaluation sheet that was designed to examine if the students had anyincrease in understanding ability, interest, and self-confidence in Englishclass, and attitude and motivation for learning English. From the data taken from the questionnaire and evaluation I came tothe following results: First, the English teaching method through English picture books iseffective on improving understanding ability for the preschool children. Second, the English teaching method through English picture booksresults in the increase of interest and self-confidence in English class. Third, the English teaching method through English picture books helpthe students to learn many vocabularies. Fourth, the English teaching method through English picture booksshow an increase in the children's interest in English language. In conclusion, the English teaching method through English picturebooks is very useful and effective for improving the increase of interestand self-confidence in English class.
