초록/요약
This study set out to investigate the side effects of the dye ingredients of para-phenylenediamine, a popular chemical dye nowadays, on the body among the female college students who had an experience of dyeing. It also aimed to examine the students' perception of dyeing, help them understand preventive measures to reduce the side effects of dyeing to the minimum, and search for the ways to promote a positive understanding of dyeing and find the right directions in improvement. For those purposes, a survey was carried out to 277 female college students in K area. The results were as follows: 1. The female college students cited looking good as the main goal of dyeing. The reason they would dye was to change their mood. 2. They said it, would be good to dye one's hair once every six months. The interval grew long as they were concerned about damage to the hair and scalp and possible side effects. 3. They felt the most serious damage to their hair when using an acid hair dye or alkali oxidation hair dye. 4. They believed that the quality of a hair dye, heat treatment and the time amount to leave the hair dye were the biggest causes of hair damage. 5. Most of the respondents answered they didn't feel any stimulation on the scalp after dyeing. Those who had healthy hair thought the dye was not stimulative to the scalp more than those who had damaged hair. 6. The most experienced side effects after dyeing include redness of the skin and hair loss. 7. They would net dye their hair because they were worried about potential hair and scalp damage, which implies that a dye has significant influences on hair and scalp damage. 8. Most of the subjects felt a definite difference in the results of dyeing between home and a hair salon. It seems that the difference is attributed to the overall dependence on the functions of a hair dye by a hair salon. The research findings indicate that most of the female college students usually dye their hair to look good or change their mood without recognizing the serious side effects of the dye ingredients of para-phenylenediamine on the body. It's critical to call their attention to the side effects and come up with preventive measures. The female college students had a longer interval between occasions of hair dyeing. They need to be provided with right knowledge of hair treatments to minimize the damage and side effects of a hair dye so that they can maintain their healthy hair and scalps. And there should be ongoing researches on the development of effective hair dyes.
