Stable installation of dental implants is restricted by several factors such as alveolar bone atrophy and adjacent anatomic structures. Especially, maxillary sinus pneumatization after loss of maxillary posterior teeth, resulting in reduction of available bone height, is a considerable factor to be difficult in implant installation, In this situation, sinus augmentation is thought to be anefficient and already established procedure. However it is considered that the long-term and comprehensive analysis of the changes of the grafted bone should be needed. Therefore the authors try to evaluate the stability of the grafted bone and assumed affecting factors in the maxillary sinus elevation procedure for implant installation via long-term, retrospective, radiographic follow-ups. We divided the patients taken sinus augmentation into two groups according to the time of installation (simultaneous installation group/delayed installation group) and also divided the patient groups according to the graft materials used. We measured the vertical height changes of the graft materials radiographically in panoramic view - preoperative, Post-ainus augmentation, post-implant second operation, and the time after final prosthesis delivery. In addition, factors affecting bone resorption such as patient's age, initial residual height, initial amount of graft and so on were evaluated to confirm its relation with the results, and all of the data was analysed statistically. Conclusively it was observed that there was vertical changes of the graft materials by 2.45±2.44 mm in average (19.13% in height), which were no significances between the groups, but in the patient group of sinus augmentation with simultaneous installation, it was observed that the rate of early bone resorption against total amount of vertical resoption was significantly higher than in other periods.
