The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of diet and combined exercise training on the factors related with postpartum obesity. Subjects who gained weight more than 5kg after delivery were recruited and underwent combined weight and aerobic exercise for 8 weeks. The results were as follows 1. Body weight, % fat, and waist to hip ratio were decreased significantly after exercise training. Specially, there was a significant difference in body weight and % fat between groups. 2. In blood lipid profiles, triglyceride was decreased significantly. Total cholesterol and LDL-C had a tendency to be decreased slightly and HDL-C had a tendency to be increased slightly but there was no statistical significant difference. 3. Combined exercise training significantly reduced insulin resistance and there was a statistical significant difference between groups. 4. In the case of physical fitness, flexibility, muscular strength, power, and cardiorespiratory fitness were increased significantly after exercise training. Two of them, power and muscular strength, were significantly different between groups. 5. Combined exercise training significantly reduced intake of total calories, carbohydrate, and fat. There was a significant difference in intake of total calories and fat between groups but not in intake of protein. In conclusion, our study suggested that diet and combined exercise intervention for 8 weeks had a benefit of improvement of insulin resistance and physical fitness, however, blood lipid profiles. These result may be explained by shortness of exercise training period and weak exercise intensity.
