The purpose of this study was to verify the health functional activities such as antidiabetes and antihyperlipidemias in ascidian(Halocynthia roretzi) and sea cucumber(Stichopus japonicus Selenka) by in vivo animal test. 1. The ascidians (meat and tunic) and sea cucumbers (whole body) for this study had 84~93% in water content. And It was very fresh as less than 10mg% level in Volatile basic nitrogen(VBN) values of the ascidians and sea cucumbers. The composition of meat of ascidian was fairly. The tunic of ascidian had high percent of ash. The sea cucumber had high percent of ash and protein. 2. The rats were fed dried ascidian and sea cucumber with oral needle jonde for 4 weeks. The blood sugar level was decreased in more feeding in longer feeding. The tunic of ascidian decreased blood sugar level more than the muscle. And the sea cucumber decreased blood sugar level more than the ascidian. 3. In the case of hyperlipidemia was induced by poloxamer 407, the values of total cholesterol and triglyceride had no significant differences to reference sample but the tunic of ascidian had small differences. However, in the case of triton WR-1339 injection, there were significant results. Especially, the tunic of ascidian had very significant results compared to control sample triton WR-1339 injected only. The rats had been fed 200mg/kg Dose of the tunic of ascidian for 4weeks, and the triglyceride was in rat blood decreased less than 20.9% and total cholesterol decreased less than 24.4%. From the above results, the tunic of ascidian and the sea cucumber are supposed to be a good health functional food for antidiabetes and antihyperlipidemias.
