This paper intends to study the features and coronal underspecification. I will look at how the phonological features, which are units of sound, interact with different phonological phenomena. Before generative grammar prevailed, it was thought that the phoneme was the minimal unit of sound. Jakobson, a linguist who mentioned the term 'feature' for the first time proposed that phonological segments can be analyzed into complexes of distinctive feature. In general, each feature can be assigned one of two possible values represented as plus or minus. In later studies, it was argued that phonological phenomena can be explained better if the features are represented with the feature geometry. The feature geometry can be thought of as a segment generator. The claim is that any member of the UG phonetic alphabets can be generated by choosing the appropriate articulator and dependent features, the cavity and general characteristics of degree and type of stricture, which lead to the segment's identity as an obstruent, sonorant, consonant, or vowel. The remainder of this paper is organized as follows: Chapter 2 gives an overview of the features suggested by Chomsky & Halle, and other scholars. In chapter 3, we'll look up the phonological phenomena as assimilation, reduction and dissimilation with a feature tree in each case. Clements contributed a lot of work on hierarchial theory. We will outline his theory in chapter 4. Chapter 5 outlines the underspecification theory to explain in more detail coronal underspecification. Chapter 6 summarizes the issues discussed and suggests that the front vowel be specified under Coronal in Korean.
